Creating workplaces where technical talent want to stay and grow

The European Chips Diversity Alliance (ECDA) is inviting technical workers across Europe’s semiconductor sector to take part in its second DEI survey.
The findings will help shape practical recommendations for employers and policymakers working to improve inclusion, retention and long-term career development.

Why this survey matters

Europe’s semiconductor industry depends on highly skilled technical talent. But attracting people into the sector is only part of the challenge.
Retaining that talent and creating workplaces where people want to stay, develop and contribute over the long term is just as important.

This survey explores the experiences of technical workers in the European semiconductor sector and looks at the factors that shape whether people feel supported, included and able to build a sustainable career in the industry.

The results will feed into ECDA’s second Diversity, Equity and Inclusion report, helping to identify practical actions that employers, educators and policymakers can take to improve working environments across the sector.

By taking part, you will help to:

  • Bring technical workers’ perspectives into the conversation
  • Highlight what helps people stay and grow in semiconductor careers
  • Inform practical recommendations for employers across Europe
  • Support evidence-based policy discussions on the future semiconductor workforce
  • Contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable sector

Who should complete the survey?

This survey is intended for people working in technical roles across the European semiconductor sector.

This includes a wide range of positions, for example:

  • Process engineers and technicians (manufacturing / production support)
  • Robotics and automation engineers (including controls and PLC roles)
  • Software engineers (controls, embedded or application-focused)
  • System design engineers (e.g. ASIC, SoC, SiP)
  • Test engineers and technicians (including product test, DFT and reliability)
  • Supply chain and logistics specialists supporting semiconductor operations

If your work contributes to the technical development, production or operation of semiconductor technologies, we strongly encourage you to take part.

What does the survey cover?

The survey looks at the working experiences of technical talent in the semiconductor sector, including workplace environment, career development, belonging and support.

Most questions ask you to select one answer or rate a statement. There are no right or wrong answers — the aim is to understand genuine experiences and perspectives.

Confidentiality and data handling

Participation is anonymous. No company-identifying information is collected, and responses will be analysed in aggregate form only.

All data is protected and will be deleted after the ECDA project concludes in 2027.

Building on ECDA’s first DEI report

This survey builds on ECDA’s first DEI report (2025), which explored how diversity, equity and inclusion are shaping Europe’s semiconductor sector.

The second report will go further by focusing on what keeps technical talent engaged and what can be done to strengthen workplaces across the industry.
